Xperia XZ2 Premium goes official with S845 & disappointing 4K display aspect ratio

Xperia XZ2 Premium

Sony is expanding the Xperia XZ2 smartphones portfolio today with the introduction of the Xperia XZ2 Premium, a smartphone that’s even more powerful than the standard XZ2 model introduced back at Mobile World Congress 2018 in late February, in Barcelona.

The all new Xperia XZ2 Premium has the new signature design with curved glass panels, but it lacks in the display department that trendy 18 or 19:9 aspect ratio. XZ2 Premium feature a gorgeous 4K display with 16:9 aspect ratio, and people might not like that it has thick bezels, however, they will definitely appreciate the waterproof coating it has.

Inside sits Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 backed up by 6GB of RAM, a 3,540 mAh battery which makes the phone quite bulky (11.9 mm in its thickest part of the housing), but it has Quick Charge technology and wireless technology too.

Xperia XZ2 Premium is the first Sony Xperia smartphone to feature a dual camera setup at the back composed of a 19MP colour Exmor RS sensor with f/1.8 aperture + a 12MP Monochrome Exmor RS sensor with f/1.6 aperture. Sony says it is the best camera for low light conditions, because it allows to set up to ISO 51,200 ISO in images, and up to ISO 12,800 in videos. Very impressive, but we will have to test that.

The front-facing selfie snapper is also a marvelous camera. It comes with a 13MP Exmor RS sensor and it can boast the ISO up to 3.200, meaning greater selfies in the club or at night on the streets.

Pricing and availability information hasn’t been revealed yet, but we know that it will arrive this summer in Chrome Black and Chrome Silver colours. Expect a price somewhere between 800 and 1.000 Euros.
