Xiaomi announces Redmi 3S, a very affordable smartphone with fingerprint sensor


In January 2016, Xiaomi announced a new and larger Redmi smartphone, which represents the company’s most affordable range of devices.

Six months later, today, Xiaomi announces an upgraded version of the Redmi 3 dubbed Redmi 3S, that looks almost identical at the exterior except for the fingerprint sensor found on the back. Another novelty is the Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor which replaces the old Snapdragon 616. But other than that the new Redmi 3S has the same measurements 139.3 x 69.6 x 8.5mm as Redmi 3 and even the weight is the same – 144 grams.

Xiaomi Redmi 3S features 5-inch 720p HD display, comes in 2 GB and 3 GB of RAM variants with 16 GB, 32GB of ROM respectively. In terms of Camera, we have the same 13MP sensor with LED Flash and phase detection autofocus, while at the front there is a 5MP with f/2.2 aperture for group selfies. Battery-wise the brand new Redmi series smartphone comes equipped by Xiaomi with a 4,100 mAh battery.

Redmi 3S goes on sale in China today, June 16, for as low as $105 for the 2 GB RAM + 16 GB ROM and $135 for the 3 GB RAM + 32 GB of ROM model.
