Samsung’s reliance on Gorilla Glass technology dates back to the dawn of the Samsung Galaxy series and Corning’s dominance across the high end segment remain unchallenged for almost 5 year. Reports are however indicating that Samsung’s display division may be developing its in-house display technology dubbed ‘Turtle Glass’ which was recently filed for trademark with the South Korean Intellectual Patent Office.
The design may be centred around tempered glass for foldable devices as the trademark suggests that the technology might end up on a plethora of devices including smartphones, monitors and music/video players. The first commercial devices with the ‘Turtle Glass’ tech might just be around the corner since Samsung is internally testing a foldable ‘Project Valley’ phone slated for launch early next year. The very same design could also eventually end up in the upcoming Galaxy S7.
