Sony had a big day yesterday at IFA Berlin when they launched not just one Xperia phone, but three. We’ve already told you about the world first 4K Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, so now lets talk about the Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact.
Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact launched at Berlin IFA:
Sony is known for releasing two exceptionally good flagship phones in two separate sizes. One is 5.2″ screen, the other slightly smaller at 4.6″. Both have the exact same tech, so the only difference is the size. Let’s look at them in more detail.
Sony Xperia Z5:
The main selling point this year of the Sony Xperia 5 is it’s market leading camera. With a large 1/2.3 23MP Exmor RS for Mobile sensor coupled with a F2.0 G Lens, taking pictures on the Sony Xperia 5 will be a cinch. What’s more, they’ll look amazing. It’s the first completely re-imagined mobile camera from Sony since the Sony Xperia Z1. you’ll even be able to use Sony’s proprietary interchangeable lens camera ⍺™ technology
The Sony Xperia Z5 has the fastest autofocus of any mobile camera with a groundbreaking speed of 0.03 seconds – faster than the human eye can blink (usually clocked at 0.1 to 0.4 seconds). This means that they’ll be fewer missed images whilst your phone struggles to focus on the quick action you’re trying to catch. Combined with the amazing sensor and lens, the advanced processing software means that pictures will look detailed and without fuzz in low light conditions, and that the 5x zoom won’t lose any clarity or quality.
Added to this, Sony’s SteadyShot with intelligent active mode technology will mean that videos will be smooth without the jostle of the skateboard or the roughness of the dirt track.
The Sony Xperia Z5 doesn’t just have a good camera though. It has a beautiful look made from a continuous plate form, with a metal frame, frosted glass back and waterproof for everyday use. Coming in a range of colours from White, Graphite Black, Gold and Green.
Sony Xperia Z5 Compact:
As always with Sony, you get a choice of form factors. You can either opt for the larger 5.2″ screen, or the 4.6″ screen without loosing any of the formers features. Both the Z5 and Z5 Compact will come with the same market leading camera and lens combination with only the size being the difference.
Both devices are powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor with an Ocat-Core CPU with 64bit capability and Ultra-fast 4G LTE antennae which will allow you to download pictures, videos and apps super fast whether it’s over your network, or via WiFi.
Both devices also come with a fingerprint reader on the power button means that your device is safe and secure, no doubt taking advantage of Android Marshmallow’s integrated Fingerprint capability. What’s more, the fingerprint not only keeps your phone secure, but your wallet too, as it will support the FIDO standard for fingerprint authorisation for online transactions (and, dare we say, Android Pay when it’s launched?), details of which will be released closer to the launch date.
With all this power-hungry technology, the Sony Xperia Z5 and Sony Xperia Z5 compact have power management technology to keep you gaming, emailing and browsing all day long with an incredible up to 2 day battery stamina and power management features. Coupled with a Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 UCH10 charger, you’ll get an extra 5.5 hours of usage from just 10 minutes of charging! That’s way more than Motorola launched last month with the Moto X.
The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact will follow its big brother in terms of looks, with a frosted glass rear, metal frame and comes in four different colours: White, Graphite Black, Coral and Yellow.
No details have been released yet about the prices of the devices, but we do know that the Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact will be released in October.
