Moto X phones start receiving Android 5.1 update in the US at least.
While Moto X 2nd Gen owners have already had a taste of the latest flavour of Android, Lollipop, those owning the original Moto X (2013 model) were left behind on Kitkat, due to some software optimization complications with the Motorola X8 Mobile Computing System (chipset), but not forgotten by Motorola. The company made a pledge not too long ago, that it will upgrade the Moto X 2013 variant from Kitkat directly to Lollipop v5.1, once the software is ready.
According to Motorola global support website, Android 5.1 is already pushing out to T-Mobile, AT&T and SIM Free users, or at least thats what the dedicated support page for Moto X 1st and 2nd Gen hint in the recent listing. The update should also be available globally soon, at least to owners of the retail Moto X first and second generation.
