Based on the most utilized mobile operating system in the world, the Android Wear platform for smartwatches is about to receive an important software update, one that will benefit from, all currently available smarwatches that are powered by this platform.

Android Wear watches receive an important software update:

The software update will include WiFi functionality, which will allow one to leave its smartphone at home and out of Bluetooth range signal, as long as it has WiFi connection.

Another important feature is the Always-on feature, which will allow users to view the screen at anytime without it going in screen off mode just to save battery. Google figured out a way to keep it Always-on and at the same time keep the energy consumption at a minimum.

Once your watch is updated to the latest software, you’re one tap away from accessing the ‘App drawer’ and from there swipe to access your Contacts or Google Now Voice Commands. See the gif above.

The software update roll out starts with LG Watch Urbane, and will spread out to all 7 Android Wear powered smartwatches, including the Moto 360, Huawei Watch and Asus ZenWatch.
