In the wake of “Bend-gate”, the saga where hundred pound phones were bending in people’s back pocket, Chinese manufacturer Oppo, have grabbed the title for the worlds thinnest phone. At only 4.85mm thin, the Oppo R5 has taken the crown. For the time being anyway.
Worlds Thinnest Phone, Oppo R5:
If you’ve never heard of Oppo, there is a good reason, they only sell in China (at the moment anyway). We recently reported on the launch of their new N3 phone, but with that launch, they also announced the Oppo R5, which has just taken the title of Worlds Thinnest Phone, as it measures only 4.85mm thin. To put that into perspective, that’s about the size of your average beer matt. Put in smartphone times, the HTC One M8 is 9.35mm thick, The LG G Watch is 9.95mm thick, and the Samsung Galaxy S5 is 8.1mm thick.
So grabbing the title of worlds thinnest phone, surely the internal hardware must have suffered, right? Wrong! The Oppo R5 is powered by an Octa-Core Processor (which is made up of a 2.1 GHz Quad-Core and a 1.5 GHz Quad-Core), 2 GB of RAM, 5.2 AMOLED HD screen, 5MP front and 13MP rear camera’s, LTE radio and a 2,000 mAh battery.
