A while back we heard about LG’s plans to make an in-house chip, much like their competition Samsung are doing. It was rumored that the Soc would be codenamed Odin.Well it seems like LG are finally ready to unleash a device powered by their in-house chip, the LG F490L codenamed Liger.
The LG F490L will be the first device that will feature LG’s first in-house SoC (System on Chip). The chip itself called the NUCLUN octa-core features four cores clocked at 1.2GHz,while the other four are clocked at 1.5GHz,one might say it resembles the big.LITTLE setup on ARM,Samsung chips. At this juncture Its a bit unclear whether it will be a 32 bit or 64 bit chip.
Apart from the processor, the LG F490L on paper does give the impression that it will be quite a relevant device, not a flagship like the G3,but definitely in the top-tier of LG’s devices. It features a 5.9-inch 1080p display,2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage,a 13 MP primary camera,a 2.1 MP front camera backed up by 3,000 mAH battery. The rear 13 MP camera does feature laser auto-focus like the G3.
Apparently LG plans to release the LG F490L in South Korea first under the LG U+ mobile operator. This by assumption probably means that LG wants to test out the new device on a single market first as quantity of the chips may not allow a large-scale distribution of the new Soc’s. It is worth to mention that the device is bigger than the LG G3,measuring in at 157.8 x 81.8 x 9.45mm.
