Android 4.4 KitKat now runs on a quarter of all devices

The most current version of Android has finally conquered a quarter of the whole ecosystem according to the latest monthly data released by Google.

Android 4.4 KitKat has grown significantly over the course of the last few months and sits at 24.5%, up from last month’s 20.9%. That’s a whopping 3.6% increase which further pushed ageing Android versions down. All Jelly Bean versions combined thus accounted for 53.8% of the total pie, that’s still a very large share but given the current trends we expect Jelly Bean to decline below the 50% mark in a couple of months.

Ice Cream Sandwich on the other hand dipped to 9.6% while Gingerbread took a deep dive from 13.6% to just 11.4% albeit the slight increase in last month’s data. Froyo is still stagnating at 0.7% and that’s unlikely going to change much unless people start switching to new devices.
