MediaTek is a chipset maker to keep an eye-on the next 12 months. Reports coming from Asia reveal that MediaTek is going to mass manufacture a couple of 64-bit chipsets capable of 4G LTE: the MT6732 (quad-core CPU) and MT6752 (octa-core CPU) by the end of 2014, which will be adopted and introduced by Sony Mobile in its 2015 low and mid range smartphones, the same reports hint.
The mass production of these new MediaTek chipsets will begin in the third quarter of 2014 and we are expecting to see them equipping at least 4-5 Sony Xperia smartphones in 2015. Source claim Sony is looking to purchase at least 20 – 30 million chipsets from the Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company.
Rumours of the two (Sony & MediaTek) working together have been heard before, but so far none of the parties confirmed these speculations.
