Archos are well-known for making good quality products at low-cost (remember our review of the Archos 79 Xenon Tablet?). This week, they have continued that reputation by releasing the Archos Oxygen 50c, an Octa-Core Processor powered phone with the price tag of a much cheaper product.
Archos Oxygen 50c:
Released with a 5 inch 1280×720 IPS HD screen and powered by an Octa-Core 1.7GHz Cortex A7 processor and backed up by 1GB of RAM, this phone is certainly no slouch. You’ll be able to play high-end games at blazing speed and still have room to spare.
To make the device even more appealing (like it needed it), the Archos Oxygen 50c is a Dual-SIM phone, meaning you can used two phone numbers (one business and one personal?) on one phone. All this technology is packed in a slim design 145x68x7.64mm in dimensions and weighing 140g.
The French Technology Company didn’t stop there, however, and have made sure that its internal storage of 8GB is expandable with 64GB SD cards and capable of connecting to other devices, with WiFi, bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio and 3G connection speeds up to 21Mbps on HSPA+ connection.
When wanting to relax, the Archos Oxygen 50c will be able to show all your films from Google Play in HD quality on its generous screen and make short work of any games that catch your fancy. Archos Media apps are also included to allow you to play your music, view your photos and videos all taken with the devices 8MP camera with Autofocus and LED Flash. Capable of recording in glorious 1080p resolutions so you don’t miss any of the moments detail. A second camera of 2MP is also provided for face-to-face video chat, or the obligatory selfy.
Running Google’s tried and tested Android Jelly Bean 4.2, you’ll have access to all the Play Store apps and games. You’ll also be able to play long into the night with a 2000mAh Li-Poly battery which will last over a day and recharge quickly with the Micro-USB cable provided so you’re ready to roll again the next day.
With all this technology, you’d expect the Archos Oxygen 50c to be a high-end device. Here, Archos comes through again with a starting price of only £179 ($304/€224) SIM free.
Archos Oxygen 50b:
If the Archos Oxygen 50c sounds too high-powered for you, then Archos comes through again with it’s little brother, the Archos Oxygen 50b, with a slightly more pedestrian (although still incredibly powerful) 1.3GHz Quad-Core processor but with the rest of the specifications the same. The same black laminated case, 5 inch IPS screen and 8MP camera capable of recording in 1080p. Available at a slightly cheaper price of £129 ($219/€161), this is still an incredible price for great hardware.
“The smartphone market is very competitive, with lots of options for consumers. Power isn’t the only deciding factor anymore”, says Loïc Poirier, ARCHOS CEO. “The price to performance ratio has never been so appealing and our customers are the big winners of this evolution – we’re delivering incredible technology without the added cost.”
