Samsung set to launch foldable tablet in 2015 (Rumour)

Foldable tablet from Samsung Electronics could come as early as next year.

Word on the street is that Samsung reportedly showed off a prototype in secret at this year’s Mobile World Congress over in Barcelona, this prototype apparently had the ability to bend and now a report coming from a Korean news source could further extenuate that claim.

The report coming fresh out of Samsung’s home country suggests that Samsung are gearing up for a commercial launch in 2015 of a foldable tablet, which will feature an 8 or 9 inch Full HD OLED display, and when folded twice will be scaled down to smartphone size, it may sound like something out of a science fiction novel, especially when current technology is nowhere near that advanced, yet the report suggests that things could progress exponentially in the months to come. Samsung is already readying a new range of Galaxy Tab S tablets with Quad HD screen resolution, but foldable tablets are a new thing in the mobile industry.

It’s unclear whether or not this will initially be a mass market product, aimed at consumers with a manageable price-tag or launch to a more select, professional audience with a very high price, like we’ve seen with Panasonic’s 20 inch 4K tablet.

As always, it’s recommended you take this kind of news with a pinch of salt, especially when it’s rumours of this magnitude. The idea of a foldable tablet and technology progressing quickly in the coming months, is definitely something we’re excited about, and we’ll keep you updated on any further developments.
