The latest monthly distribution figures are out! Numbers for June clearly show that the KitKat flavour of Android is still on a the rise, up from 8.5% last month to a steady 13.6%.
It’s quite obvious that this increase was fuelled by an even larger portion of new devices shipping with Android 4.4 KitKat onboard, while several handsets like the Xperia Z1, HTC One (M7) and others were given the upgrade this quarter.
Google has also officially removed Honeycomb from the chart as it dwindled below the 0.1% mark. Ice Cream Sandwich managed to lose 1.1% of its share, now at 12.3%. All Jelly Bean versions combined accounted for a staggering 58.4% of the pie, from its mighty 60.8% in May 2014. Legacy versions of Android, namely Gingerbread and Froyo are now at a mere 15.7%. The figure is expected to drop below 10% in a few quarters as older devices reach the end of their life cycle.
