HTC One M8 Google Play Edition hits Play store

HTC One M8 Google Play Edition

We pretty much knew everything HTC announced at their London event yesterday from a series of leaks, we even saw a 15 minute hands-on video prior to HTC officially unveiling their HTC One 2014 flagship yet, it was still met with much fanfare.

Following yesterday’s launch, the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition is now available from Google’s Play store, the Google Play Edition differs from the HTC version as it doesn’t have HTC’s Sense skin running on top of Android instead; it utilizes stock Android, meaning it’s free from any HTC’s tweaks and modifications, giving the user a similar experience to that of Google’s own Nexus range of devices.

As well as giving the user the benefit of a clean Android experience, free from manufacturing, Google Play edition devices also receive updates to the latest version of Android months in advance to their manufacturer branded counterparts.

The HTC One M8 Google Play Edition, was available on the U.S Google Play store, retailing at $699 (£420) and the shipping time was listed as 2-3 weeks, although as of writing this, clicking on the store link brings up a server error message and has done for at least the last few hours. We’re not sure if this is a genuine server error or demand was so high, stock ran out and the site crashed. We’ll be sure to let you know when it’s back up and running and also when it’ll be available on the UK store.
