Xperia Z series Android 4.4 update now available

Sony dropped Android 4.4 KitKat and a whole host of other Sony software improvements to the lucky owners of; Xperia Z Ultra, Sony Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 Compact. Sony posted the following statement on their official blog;

“We’ve been working to build new Sony experiences on Google’s KitKat release to create some neat / sweet features (if we say so ourselves) – in addition to a few performance tweaks here & there”

They’ve also listed some of the software tweaks and improvements you can look forward to such as; a tweaked menu bar, which is more customizable and also has a cleaner look. Sony have also added a quick settings tab.

There’s also greater integration with the Playstation for, as well as Sony bringing the UI closer in line with the PS4s. If you don’t have a ps4 don’t worry, Sony have also given a complete overhaul to their native app selection so, your messaging app as well as; MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, TrackID, TrackID TV, Sony Select and the Smart Social Camera have been given a lick of paint.

There’s also greater cloud integration for all your Walkman, album and movie needs, as well as a ton of downloadable themes, UI packs and live wallpapers.

If you can’t see your phone on the chosen list don’t worry Sony says they plan to roll out the updates to the Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z and the Xperia ZR which is scheduled for mid quarter 2 and they will also make the upgrade available for Xperia T2 UltraXperia E1 and Xperia M2.
