Motorola have updated their popular Moto Maker, a website which will allow you to personalise your Moto X prior to dispatch, with college logo’s and colours to celebrate the beginning of tournament season in US colleges.
College Collection comes to Moto X:
With 40 schools to choose from, many users will be able to get a colour coordinated phone with a clear case with the logo of their chosen college on it. More will be added, says Motorola on their blog, and if yours isn’t among the ones available yet, you can request it using a link to tell Motorola what should be added next. The cases cost $34.95, and can be added at the time of purchase when using the Moto Maker website.
To be clear, the logo’s of the schools aren’t on the phone itself, but on a clear shell which snaps on to the phone. The shell is clear allowing the colour coordinated phone to shine through.
Along with the College Collection, nine new back colours and three new accent colours have been added to the palette of Moto Maker, allowing you to at least choose the colour closest to your school colours if they don’t have your logo yet. The addition of these colours means that the Moto X is one of the most customisable phones available on the market straight out of the box.
Students get extra discount:
To entice students even more, Motorola are offering students the chance to get a $60 discount (from $399 to $339) if they sign up with a valid .edu email address at motorola.com/college
If you’re not a college student, you can get $35 off a non contract phone when bought with a Chromecast dongle. The item must be bought before the 03/31/14 using the promo code STREAM at the checkout.
Sadly, for British and European customers, the College Collection is only relevant to the US market, and there is still no word on when the Moto Maker service will be coming to our shores. The Moto X is at least up for sale, but only in the plain black or white.
