It’s once again time to review Android’s monthly progress, the Android distribution numbers gathered during a seven day period ending on February 4 are out!
The data reveals that Holo-centric versions of Android are up and running on 78.6% of active devices. With all Jelly Bean releases (4.1-4.3) clocking at 60.7%, a slight increase over last month’s numbers.
Android 2.3 Gingerbread on the other hand, slipped from 21.1% down to 20%. Ice Cream Sandwich held on to 16.1% of the pie, dripping from 16.9%. Android Froyo stood still at just 1.3% while discontinued versions of the OS represented 21.4% of these active device numbers.
The chocolate flavoured Android version didn’t really take off, Android 4.4 KitKat hangs on to a mere 2% up from 0.3%. This being partly attributed to the lack of devices launching with Android KitKat along with the lack of firmware updates for several devices.
This situation is set to improve as several flagship devices are offered the KitKat treatment but it’s unlikely that we see a huge bump in KitKat’s share considering that it hasn’t been long since it was launched.
