Samsung have already stolen the limelight so far this year with the launch of their two new lines of tablets at CES 2014, the Galaxy TabPRO and NotePRO lines turned heads and won over a lot of previous haters of the TouchWiz user interface.
This latest round of rumours looks like they’re not about to lose that attention just yet, the most striking part of this latest information is that apparently the Galaxy S5 will be available in both plastic and metal versions, which means those images we saw a while back of a metal chassis, could indeed be legit. If the rumours are true, it is alleged that Samsung will be selling the higher end metal S5 for around £670 and the more budget plastic version for £540, this is very similar to Apple’s recent strategy of the Iphone 5s and 5c, there’s no word on the naming of either device, although if previous leaks are to be believed the metal version could be named the F5.
The camera is another area of the purported device which has come under much scrutiny recently, according to this latest rumour the megapixel count of the rear facing camera will stay the same at 16MP, there’s also been many whispers that it will receive optical image stabilization(OIS) although, this rumour neither confirms nor denies that point.
Moving onto the front of the device, the resolution of the Galaxy S5 is reported to be 2560 x 1440 (2K) and around the 5-5.25 inch mark, and like last year’s model will feature an AMOLED display. Under the hood the processor powering the device will either be Samsung’s own Exynos 6 or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 depending on which region the device is sold in and whether or not it supports LTE bands. Samsung’s latest and greatest will also reportedly be running Android 4.4 or whatever version happens to be the latest at the time of release.
Moving on from the S5, there are also rumours surfacing of plans for the launch of an Galaxy S5 mini and an Galaxy S5 Zoom, which will be launched within months of the S5 very similar to what Samsung did in 2013 with their launches of the S4 mini and zoom. There’s not many details on the specs of either model just yet, although it can be assumed the mini will keep a similar form factor to the full-size S5 but perhaps with a 4.3 inch screen and a step down in specifications much like the S4/S4 mini. The S5 zoom will allegedly have a 4.3 inch qHD display, but there’s no word on the design of it yet although hopefully; it’ll look a bit more aesthetically pleasing than last year’s model.
Samsung Galaxy S5 might make its debut in mid-March according to most recent rumours and Samsung Mobile VP.
