Vivo Xplay 3S sees its official debut today as the worlds first smartphone sporting a 2K screen resolution. Hardware-wise the handset is impressive in almost all compartments, Xplay 3S is going to be packing a 2K (2,560 x 1,440) 490PPI display, which will look insanely detailed on the device’s 6 inch display. Vivo unintentionally revealed the resolution of the device back in October.
As I mendtioned earlier, the display isn’t the only area of the phone guaranteed to leave your senses tingling, as well as the very high-definition display Vivo have also included some extremely advanced audio equipment inside the Xplay 3S. The audio equipment in question is a ESS Technology ES9018 DAC and Texas Instruments’ OPA2604 amplifier, if like me you have no idea what they are, they’re pretty much the best you can get in regards to audio equipment. It’s not just the amplifier that’s going to leave your ears ringing, The 3S also comes with support for 7.1 and 11.1 surround sound, bring the much loved surround sound effect to your stereo headphones. Vivo also have a video streaming service which boasts 200 stereo sound capable movies and plenty of other movies in 1080p and 720p.
As well as all the eye catching information on speaker and screen specs, it’s easy to forget what’s actually powering the phone. Keeping the Xplay 3S ticking over is a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800, backed up by 3GB of RAM.The Xplay is only available in one storage size of 32GB. This is all powered by a 3,200mAh battery. The device also has support for TD-LTE and FDD-LTE.
On the back of the device is the new fingerprint scanner which allows you to unlock the device as well as access files and documents you don’t want any old Tom, Dick or Harry getting their hands on. The back of phone has a slight ergonomic issue, where the fingerprint scanner is placed precariously close to the f/1.8 13 megapixel camera, which may cause some issues with smudging up your lens when you’re trying to touch the fingerprint reader. As well as the 13 megapixel sensor round the back, there’s also a 5 megapixel front facing camera for all your selfie taking needs (Let’s hope Barack Obama and David Cameron aren’t reading this).
While Vivo were apparently quoted as saying they had “Big plans for overseas markets” there’s no definitive time scale on when the device will be launched internationally or even in China, although Chinese online store Tmall are going to be starting preorders “soon”. The Xplay 3s is going to be priced at CN¥ 3,498 which is about $580 or £353.
