Back in those care-free days of late August Google released a web tool – Android Device Manager, which allowed users to track any lost or stolen devices they had registered with it, now it’s just been made a lot easier with Google launching a stand alone app for the service.

The new app gives you pretty much all the same abilities granted by the web tool such as; being able to locate a lost device on a map, make the device emit a sound, set up a password on it and if all hope of getting it back is lost you can wipe your phone or tablet entirely. The service is available to be installed on any Android device running 2.3 Gingerbread or higher.

It’s advisable if you only have one Android device not to installed this service on just that device, because obviously if you lose it you won’t be able to try to locate it with the app.
