Android 4.3 update details for Samsung Galaxy devices

Android 4.3 update

We were told back at Samsung’s September event, where they released the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear, that Samsung’s older flagship models (the Galaxy Note 2, the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4) would be getting an OS update. Rumours have been circulating for months on which update that could be with suggestions it could be the new 4.4 KitKat update. Details have now been leaked which confirm these devices will get Android 4.3 update as well as some of the features they will get.

Android Police have released details apparently leaked to them of when the Samsung Galaxy S4, S4 Active, S3 and Note 2 will be update with dates for each major US carrier. These dates are subject to change, as we know that updates from the network are notoriously slow. What is clear from the leak is that all the phones should be updated by the end of November, Christmas at the latest. This is most likely because Samsung is working hard with the networks to get the update out for the holidays in an attempt to make their Galaxy Gear Smartwatch more appealing as a potential Christmas present. Here are the details as outlined by the leak on the Android Police website:

Android 4.3 update specifics:

Details have also been leaked to suggest what the Android 4.3 update may contain other than compatibility with Samsung Galaxy Gear.

Some leaks suggest that the Android 4.3 update will also include Samsung KNOX, which is described only as “a secure and comprehensive mobile solution for enterprises and consumers”.

Samsung SmartSwitch, which will allow you to transfer data and other content from other devices to Samsung (presumably if you’ve just got a Samsung device, you can transfer everything over from your old phone).

HomeSync, which is said to be able to “store, share and enjoy content securely wherever you are”.

And Finally, an update to GroupShare to 2.5.

There are also other usability features in text input methods and updated graphics and multimedia capabilities. This shows that the Android 4.3 update will be a substantial update and bring the Samsung Galaxy S4, S3 and Note 2 up to the latest secure OS before the release of Android 4.4 KitKat.
