We’ve seen several Android/Linux compatible boards last year but here comes a new contender; the ARM-powered Cubietruck featuring the dual-core Allwinner A20 SoC. The latter sports two low power ARM Cortex-A7 cores coupled with the Mali-400MP2 GPU along with 2GB of DDR3 RAM clocking at 480MHz.
Spec-wise it may have the processing power of last year’s midrange devices but it shall nevertheless deliverer a flawless user experience. The board also features on-board WiFi, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet, SATA 2.0, 2 USB host ports, a headphone jack, an IR port, 4 LED lights as well as a MicroSD card slot. The board measures 11cm x 8cm x 1.4mm.
There are also 54 extended pins including I2S, I2C, SPI, CVBS, LRADC x2,UART, PS2, PWMx2, TS/CSI, IRDA, LINEIN&FMIN&MICIN, TVINx4 with 2.0 pitch connectors.
The Cubietruck will cost you $89 and comes with Android 4.2.2 preinstalled but also offers the ability to install Lubuntu 12.10. Avid developers will also be able to load supported ARM flavors of their favorite Linux distros.
The Cubietruck should start shipping in mid-October.
