The CyanogenMod is once again prepping a new feature for their popular ROM, the latest addition is dubbed ‘CyanogenMod Account’. The latter basically offers what Google did with Android Device Manager. IN short it will allow users to remote wipe & track their devices
CyanogenMod Account has already being pushed in the CM’s repo and is scheduled to included in future builds of CyanogenMod. The CM account will be completely optional and free with no 3rd parties involved (carriers, OEMs etc). The entire end-to-end encryption will be handled by the CyanogenMod team.
The key difference between this open source implementation and Google’s Device Manager is the complete encryption of the account. The code is not obfuscated in any way nor is the CyanogenMod team interested in gathering or selling personal user data as clearly stated:
- We have no interest in selling your data
- We cannot track you or wipe your device. We designed the protocol in such a way that makes it impossible for anyone but you to do that.
The CyanogenMod Account won’t quite be rolling out in the latest nightlies until being completely reviewed.
