During a product briefing at a Asus meeting in France earlier this morning, the names Asus PadFone Mini, Asus MeMO Pad HD 8 and Asus MeMOFone HD 5 came up as part of Asus Smartphone and Pad strategy in a couple of slides among other product names that we are familiar with from Computex 2013, such as the FonePad HD 7, FonePad Note FHD 6, MeMO Pad HD 7 or the new Nexus 7 that was announced recently. These names suggest that Asus is readying a handful of new devices in the following 6 months or so, targeting several branches, including the 8 inch where the Galaxy Note 8.0 and the iPad Mini are dominant right now.
At this point little to nothing is known about these new devices. Unfortunately for us, there were no mentions about any of the hardware components, nor any details linked to a date of release in these slides. However we are almost certain that Asus is going to unleash some of them at the IFA 2013, because they can not miss such an opportunity and come empty-handed.
We are expecting Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets inside most of these device, except maybe those targeting the entry-level segment where we might see a MediaTek or Intel Atom SoC inside. Which of these names get you excited?
