Update (November 07): Sony has issued a statement regarding Android 4.3 and Android 4.4 future upgrades. Details found here.
After Android 4.3 launch and the disappointment that followed all users with devices other than the Nexus 7, Nexus 4, Nexus 10 and Galaxy Nexus not being able to upgrade to the newly launched Jelly Bean 4.3 immediately, Sony has decided not to wait any longer, but make their devices ready for the Google update with Sony’s Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP, and Xperia Z Ultra being the first proposed gadgets to receive this important upgrade with other devices rumoured to be in the tunnel for the second phase of Sony’s gadgets that will undergo this upgrade.
Update November 8: Sony just announced which devices will receive Android 4.3 next month (December) and which will also go through to Android 4.4.
Sony isn’t taking the upgrade lightly and is actually considering a boost upgrade directly from 4.1 to 4.3 without going through 4.2, a move that is most welcome to Sony gadget owners as they await this experience. Why take a flight of derailing stair-steps while a lift exists? One may ask. Come August this change will start to reflect on the Xperia ZR and Tablet Z receiving a 4.2 upgrade with Sony’s Jelly Bean 4.2 upgrade for Xperia Z and Xperia ZL well underway. Though no official schedule for Android 4.3 updates has been released yet. It’s important to note that Sony started rolling out Android 4.1 update for the 2012 Xperia devices (Xperia T, Xperia TX, Xperia V, Xperia S, Xperia acro S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia go, Xperia J ) starting from February earlier this year. With the last news regarding the schedules being December 17, 2012 on their official site, we can only speculate and purport that the updates have been completed before this new set of updates begins to officially roll out.
Sony further added that the upgrade process would involve two main phases the first one being the bring up phase and the Test, and second being the certification and approval phase. With the latter being the most time consuming, Sony has promised that they have improved their upgrade process in place that would let them deliver the updates much faster though the process might vary from country to country and also depend on the carriers. All we have to do is sit back and wait for the schedules to be tabulated on the official Sony blog to know when what gadget will be expected to receive the Jelly Bean’s 4.3 anticipated update.
