Week in Review @PocketDroid (3.6 – 9.6)

pocketdroid week in reviewARM introduced new mid-range Cortex-A12 chip:

Enter ARMs’ new kid on the block, the Cortex-A-12 processor. First off it should be noted that it supports ARMs’ big.LITTLE processing technology with the Cortex-A7 processor. This big processor handles the more heavy tasks that you might engage in (running multiple apps, multitasking) while the little processor handles the less, well little day-to-day tasks (making calls, texting, taking a photo). If you’re a power user, this is important. ARM claims that the new Cortex A-12 brings a 40% performance boost over the Cortex-A9 architecture, while consuming the same amount of power. Includes a powerful GPU too

Qualcomm announced new Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor with built-in LTE modem:

Chip maker Qualcomm made announcements today regarding its snapdragon family of processors. A hard-hitting announcement it was too. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 family is getting a brand new processor, featuring quad-core CPUs with integrated multi-mode 3G/4G LTE. The new processor also integrates key modem features that are important to China and other emerging regions, including TD-SCDMA, HSPA+ (up to 42Mbps), and multi-SIM capabilities. The name of this processor is the MSM8926. Has rich set of connectivity options

Toshiba announced three new Excite Android tablets:

Toshiba has just announced three new tablets for its 2013 line-up, the Excite Pure, Excite Pro and Excite Write. All of them are 10-inchers and look alike, the first one sits in the entry level, while the rest of the Toshibas are suited for the high-end market. Packed with NVIDIA Tegra 4

Madfinger Games released the trailer of the upcoming sequel Dead Trigger 2:

Dead Trigger 2 has been already announced back in January. However, it hasn’t been until now that we’ve received a proper trailer of the actual game, and what we’ve got here is quite interesting.

It has been already known that Madfinger Games strictly concentrate on developing games specially optimized for NVIDIA Tegra processors and  Dead Trigger 2 makes no exception. It’s clearly pointed out that it would be available on both today’s and yesteryear’s generations of processors, but the upcoming generation of Tegra processors, the Tegra 4, will be getting a special treatment again. Watch the trailer

HTC released the RUU of the One Developer Edition:

HTC has just published the latest RUU for the HTC One Developer Edition. – Carries the 1.29.1540.16 moniker while still based on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

This is basically a untouched image of HTC’s original ROM, it shall allow avid custom ROM enthusiasts to restore their shiny HTC One Developer Edition to their default factory defaults shall something go wrong. This image can potentially solve a ‘soft-brick’ or a system modification gone terribly wrong (like a wrong kernel boot.img being applied for instance).  Get the ROM

Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom was captured:

Samsung is set to reveal a whole plethora of devices during the upcoming ‘Premier 2013‘ event scheduled to take place on June 20 in London yet we’ve already got a glimpse of what to expect, the Galaxy S4 Zoom (SM-C101). – The second Android cameraphone from Samsung has been leaked infull shots! See the cameraphone

Meizu MX3 was exposed to the world:

The new Meizu flagship looks nearly identical to the MX2, except it has grown in size but frankly, not in thickness. Meizu has reduced the bezels at minimum, thus keeping the fingerprint of the smartphone not that big if you consider the monstrous 5-inch display. We are quite fond of its design and we think it’s one of the better-looking devices around. Packs quite oomph under the hood
