Toshiba has just announced three new tablets for its 2013 line-up, the Excite Pure, Excite Pro and Excite Write. All of them are 10-inchers and look alike, the first one sits in the entry level, while the rest of the Toshibas are suited for the high-end market.
The Toshiba Excite Pro and Excite Write sport off-the-press NVIDIA Tegra 4 processors and gorgeous 10.1-inch displays with resolution of 2560×1600 pixels. The new Tegra 4 chip has already proved that it’s one of the best mobile chipsets available right now, while the high-resolution screen sits on top of every other display we have ever seen on a tablet. They both run on Android 4.2.2 Jellybean, which is the latest and greatest Google has to offer right now.
Probably the most exciting tablet of the bunch is the Excite Write, as it’s the only one to feature a touchscreen digitizer for handwriting recognition. That said, the slate comes with a special pen called TruPen that makes use of the technology, much like the one found on Samsung’s Galaxy Note devices. TruPen has 1024 pressure points. Of course, the Excite Write comes with pre-installed apps that take advantage of the TruPen, thus enhancing the usability of the tablet.
“With more and more consumers adopting tablets as their go-to devices for entertainment and travel, we wanted to push the boundaries even further and equip our new Excite tablets with the technology and features needed to maximize the potential of these devices,” stated Carl Pinto, the vice president of marketing at Toshiba USA. “By focusing on boosting the capabilities of the screen – from increasing the resolution to adding a digitizer option – we’re also evolving the way consumers can use these devices from consumption to creation.”
The Toshiba Excite Pure is Toshiba’s entry-level 10-inch offering. Its display resolution is scaled down to 1280×800 pixels and the Tegra 4 chip is replaced with the old Tegra 3 processor we are all familiar with. It comes with a pure version of Android 4.2.2 Jellybean, which means reasonably fast updates are a go.
Toshiba priced the Excite Pure at $299, while the Excite Pro and Excite Write will be sold for $499 and $599 respectively, starting from June 25.
