Rounds of rumors and speculation finally come to an end, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini goes official today! – This shrunken down version of the Galaxy S4 sports many similarities compared to its bigger brother, but it’s a different beast inside out.
Samsung Electronics unveiled 20 days ahead of the London event – Samsung Premiere 2013 Galaxy & Ativ, where the Korean electronics leader is supposed to unveil a slew of new devices from both the Galaxy & Ativ Series.
The 4.3-inch (11cm) qHD Super AMOLED midrange handset runs Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 (something that we still fail to see with other manufacturers) and packs a dual core processor ticking at 1.7GHz which appears to indeed be the Snapdragon 400 as previously rumored coupled with 1.5GB of RAM. There’s also a 8MP rear shooter with Sound & Shot and Panorama modes (but no double shot or 360 photo) along with a 1.9MP front facing camera.
To keep down the price several features like the barometer, temperature and humidity sensors were stripped off but you’ll still have most core Samsung apps including S health and Group Play.
There’s also 8GB of storage that can obviously be expanded via a MicroSD card. The Samsung Galaxy S4 mini measures 124.6 x 61.3 x 8.94mm and weighs 107g compared to 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm and 130g for the full-sized Galaxy S4. It sports a 1,900mAh user-replaceable battery under the hood and will launch with two color options, White Frost and Black Mist.
This little beast will also come in two variants slated for different markets. One version will feature LTE connectivity coupled with NFC while the other will pack standard 3G HSPA+ connectivity. They both support dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS + GLONASS.
More is set to come when Samsung demoes it during their Premier 2013 London event on June 20. Stay tuned for more!
