What it is touted as the saviour of the company in 2013, nay slowly become the trojan horse for HTC. For the last 30 days or so the Taiwanese mobile maker is struggling to ship its flagship smartphone due to some supply issues and as if that isn’t enough for them an injunction won by Nokia Corp in the Netherlands forbids HTC to sell the HTC One in the country.
HTC has integrated proprietary microphone technology developed by STMicroelectronics into the HTC One on which apparently Nokia has exclusive rights, according to a Dutch judge who granted the injunction. This means HTC is forced to either settle with Nokia or replace the STMicroelectronics microphone with something else, otherwise the company might face the same penalty in other countries as well.
“HTC is disappointed in the decision. We are considering whether it will have any impact on our business and we will explore alternative solutions immediately.”
It looks like HTC’s bad luck is still following them in the second quarter of 2013.
Update: Amsterdam District Court denies any injunction against HTC One, says it was only a recall request from Nokia, which was rejected. More here.
