Archos makes entry into smartphone arena

Archos, the name you usually would expect to hear with the word “tablet” next to it has just made an entry into the smart phone world. The tablet maker has finally released information pertaining to 4 smart phones which will be released in Europe most likely by the end of May. Its been quite a journey for Archos considering they had said that they would enter the smart phone market if they thought it was necessary for them to do so five years ago in 2008.

The four Archos phones  are the Archos Carbon 35,the Archos Titanium 52,the Archos Titanium 4 and the Archos Platinum 48. All of them are running stock android with no customizations (think touchwiz,HTC sense,EMOTION UI). Their flagship device seems to be the Archos Platinum 48 judging from its specs,(1.2Ghz quad core processor,1 GB of ram,8 GB of internal storage,8 mega pixel camera,2000mAh battery and Android Jelly bean) .With those specs it would actually go head to head with the iphone 5,HTC one X and maybe even the Samsung galaxy s3. Its the other device in the pack, probably trying to hit out at the phablet market: the Archos Titanium 52.

It has a 5.2″ capacitive 800×480 IPS touchscreen, dual core 1.2 GHz Mediatek processor,2200 mAh removable battery,512mb Ram,4GB internal memory and a 5 mega pixel back camera, the only thing that might come as a surprise is that it runs on ice cream sandwich. The other low entry smart phones from Archos, the Archos Titanium 4 and the Archos Carbon 35 run on ice cream sandwich as well. The Carbon 35 has 3.5″ capacitive 480×320 IPS touchscreen,1 GHz Mediatek processor,512 ram,512 internal and a 2 mega pixel back camera plus a 1500 mAh battery. The Titanium 4 has a 4″ 800×480 capacitive touchscreen,a dual core 1.2 GHz Mediatek processor,512 Ram and 4GB internal memory,5 mega pixel camera and a 2200 mAh battery.

It is also worthy to note that all these phones have dual Sim capability, though so far none have 4G LTE capability. Does Archos have what it takes to take on the  smart phones giants? Only time will tell.
