Redesigned Google Play Store 4.0 rolling out today

Google has long been rumored to be internally prepping a new revamped version of their Play Store, it turns out that the new Play Store 4.0 is now rolling out to all Android devices!

The new version incorporates several design changes most prominently the addition of more consistent interface elements such as larger images. Navigating around is much more easier than ever, purchases were reworked and the whole checkout system was simplified. The whole theme & colors are lighter inside out, ditching the traditional dark design. More emphasis has been put onto providing the most fluent interface without compromising usability.

The new design focuses on bigger images that jump off the page. Similarly themed content is grouped together so you can hone in on a magazine to read or an app to try. As you move down the page, new recommendations continue to appear so there is always more to see and explore. We’ve also simplified purchasing so you can breeze through checkout and get to enjoying your movie rental or other content.

The update will be made available to any approved Android 2.2+ device today itself, Google however indicates the process will take few days (if not weeks) to reach users all around the globe.

Update: The APK is now available for download.
