Jelly Bean on the rise, now accounts for 25% of Android devices

Android Jelly Bean (4.1 & 4.2) has been on a steady rise since the last year, climbing to record heights while snatching more share from Gingerbread(2.3) which further fell into obsolescence.

Google’s new data collection method now counts devices which checked in the Play Store instead of Google servers, that may significantly produce a drop in the statistics but Google claims that their method reflect the users most engaged in the Android and Google Play ecosystem.

Android 4.1.x sits at 23% while the most recent flavor of Jelly Bean has a mere 2.0% while still expanding its realm. Ice Cream Sandwich managed to top 29.3% while the dreaded Gingerbread still clings to 39.7% while seeing a monthly decrease. Older versions still account 5.8% but they’re also gradually fading away.

Jelly Bean could dethrone Ice Cream Sandwich in a matter of months given its relatively fast pace of growth!
