Ainol is one among few Chinese tablet manufacturers known to the western world, mainly popularized by their successful Novo brand which initially started off with the affordable 7-inch Allwinner A10 based tablets like the Novo 7 Elf and Aurora without forgetting those from the AmLogic family (Novo 7 Elf II, Flame, etc). Times have changed and Ainol tablets have evolved from those lowly single core devices to robust quad-core devices.
The Chinese manufacturer just announced their latest additions to the Novo series – Meet the Novo 8 Discovery & the Novo 8 Dream, those will very likely be two very similar tablets with the Discovery being the one with the slightly better spec sheet. Both are touted as quad-core machines having a relatively good performance-price ration & will come with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean right out of the box but there’s a high possibility that they’ll get the Jelly Bean treatment in a matter of months.
Details are scarce at this time but we know for sure that they’ll sport an aluminum case and will come in 6 different colors. Inside you’ll fin a quad-core SoC & GPU (probably the ATM7029) along with 2GB of DDR3 RAM under the hood all powered by a 6000mAh battery, there’s also HDMI output as well as a standard USB port. The screen resolution is no Retina or Nexus 10-alike but an IPS 1024 x 778 is what you’ll get for the relatively low price of those tablets. You’ll also have to contend yourself with 2MP front & back cameras.
Ainol usually provides the best bang-for-buck devices but be warned, they aren’t so keen when it comes to software updates especially major Android upgrades. Products from Ainol don’t usually obtain major Android upgrades, you might want to consider something else if updates are of crucial importance to you.
