Archos GamePad hits the states with a $180 price tag

You may have seen previously seen Android powered gamepad but the 7-inch (17.7cm) Archos GamePad is a totally different beast, sure it’s not project shield but aims to provide decent gaming performance while keeping the bar low on the price.

Priced at the $180 and available at select U.S online retailer the Archos GamePad will immense Android gamers in a whole new world. So what’s new? Many of us have been playing on our shiny Android phones but we didn’t really feel that pure gaming experience that one would experience with a real gamepad. Well, the Archos GamePad packs physical hardware buttons specifically designed for Android games all within a 0.3 inch enclosure.

On the software side there’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean but everything interesting is under the hood; for what it’s worth the little beast packs the Rockchip RK3066 SoC with a dual core setup ticking at 1.6Ghz coupled with 1GB of RAM. Arranged in landscape mode, the GamePad’s 1024 x 600 screen resolution isn’t going to light the world on fire but the popular quad-core Mali-400MP4 GPU should provide excellent frame rates without too much battery consumption. 8GB of storage shall provide enough internal storage for the average gamer but this can be increased with a MicroSD slot.

We have no information on the international release dates but we’ll update as more information comes in, stay tuned for more!
