WebKit-based Opera beta browser lands in the Play Store

We’ve heard a lot of rumbling around Opera which recently announced that they’ll ditch their in-house Presto rendering engine for the popular WebKit engine, the same core found in Chrome, Safari and others.

Their move to WebKit is still in the works but in the meantime they’ve released an experimental build on the Google Play Store. From initial usage the browser appears to function and respond very similarly to Chrome for Android.

The beta is blazing fast and feels snappier than the Presto-based Opera Mobile but there are still bugs to iron out, multiple users are reporting page loading issues. The interface looks like something forked from Chromium but it looks very similar to what was demoed at Barcelona during MWC2013
