Gmail v4.2 update now available brings pinch-to-zoom, swipe away and larger contact images

A while ago (about a month and a half) new Gmail app version 4.2 has been pulled out of an unreleased at that time Nexus 4 unit which made us believe that an upgrade was underway and we werent mistaken. That day has come for Google to push out Gmail 4.2 update to Ice Cream Sandwich devices or above.

The new version brings all those goodies like the ability to pinch and zoom inside the app, swipe away to dismiss emails that we dont want (need) and larger contact images, but all these only to ICS running devices.

Whats new in Gmail v4.2:

Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and up:

  • Auto-fit messages to screen and message zooming
  • Swipe messages to archive or delete
  • Attach photos and videos from within Gmail
  • Larger photo previews and gallery view for photo attachments
  • Bug fixes and performance improvements

Android 2.2 and up:

  • New Labels API for 3rd-party appdevelopers
  • Performance improvements

Note: You need to configure the Gmail app for pinch to zoom and swipe feat to work from Settings.
