PadFone 2 officially announced by Asus

Asus has officially unveiled a couple of hours ago in an event held in Milan, Italy its new PadFone 2 device. Build upon the successful original PadFone which combines an Android smartphone and a dockable tablet, PadFone 2 brings better hardware specification and a completely redesigned tablet.

 “Our relentless drive to innovate through our ‘Design Thinking’ philosophy has empowered us to create PadFone 2. It’s beautiful, it’s fast and, best of all, it’s intuitive,” said Mr. Shih.

Combining both smartphone and tablet into one single device, PadFone 2 features a 4.7 inch Super IPS+ Gorilla Glass touch screen with 1280x720p (312 dpi) IGZO display (made by SHARP) at 550 nits brightness. It is powered by Qualcomm’s 1.5GHz quad core Snapdragon S4 CPU with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 320 GPU, 16GB to 64GB of built-in storage+microSD card slot, 13MP rear camera, 1.2MP camera in front, GSM, LTE, HSPA+, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, 2140 mAh battery running on Android 4.0.4 ICS which is upgradable to Android 4.1 JellyBean.

The 13 megapixels camera capable to capture up to 100 shots at a lightning-fast six shots per second, while simultaneously recording 1080p HD video at 30fps, or 720p HD video at 60fps. Low-light performance is also enhanced by the wide f/2.4.

Asus PadFone 2 will be available before the end of December in Europe (Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, and Sweden) at € 799 for the 32GB model or € 899 for the 64GB and Asia (Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and U.A.E). Availability in other countries will be announced at a later date by the company.
