CyanogenMod now has build-in updater

One has to be most ignorant in the Android scene, when CyanogenMod doesn’t ring any bell. Some will say ‘saved by the bell,’ because CyanogenMod ROMs brought their devices to new life.

The custom ROMs used to come with Koushik Dutta‘s ROM-Manager pre-installed. With ROM-Manager you can search, download and flash all kind of ROMs by supported developers.

Last week, CM silently released a build-in ROM updater of their own, which is in fact an unofficial app for CM. The feature already occurred in current CyanMobile ROMs for Nexus One and Nexus S. For CM there used to be a one that goes back to version 5.0.1 in 2009.

From now, all CM9 (based on ICS) and CM10 (based on Jelly Bean) nightly builds will come with it. Just take a look at Settings > About this phone. With the updater, there’s no need to check every sunday for a new release manually.

CM7 nightlies based on Gingerbread won’t join the updater. My Nexus Ones’s getting old..
