Samsung’s flagship smartphone will receive an upgrade to the latest version of Android next month. According to CNet Samsung plans to make the update available ‘during October’ although no official date has been mentioned.
The update will be rolled out OTA (over the air) region after region, but carrier locked handsets like those from Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint or other carriers will likely suffer a slight delay as it has been the case with the Galaxy SII.
The 4G LTE version of the Galaxy SIII will ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box while unlocked handsets will have the update directly available over the course of October.
That’s another attempt for Samsung to minimize the update period which caused some havoc in the case the Galaxy SII users which saw some huge delays with the viability of their ICS update while carriers took some time to approve the update builds for their networks.
