LG sells 5 million LTE smartphones

LG Electronics revealed in a press release that it had reached a new milestone of 5 million LTE enabled smartphone sales. After crossing 4 million in June, 1 million more were sold in July. That equals roughly one phone every 2.5 seconds.

LG’s first LTE smartphone, the RevolutionTM, was released in the US in May, 2011, through the Verizon network.

Although the Optimus LTE takes the crown with 2 million sales, the Optimus Vu is trying hard, having sold half a million units since March. And with the release of the industry’s first 2GB RAM LTE smartphone Optimus LTE II in May, LG saw the fastest sales among all LTE smartphones with this device reaching half a million units in the first 70 days.

LG also currently holds the highest number of LTE patents out of any of its competitors.

LG said that they expected sales to increase ten fold, and will be releasing some more impressive LTE devices in the coming months.
