Alien Rescue is game developed by RomBots Team. It is an homage to the old top down shooters back in the day such as the 19XX series by Capcom. You control an alien name Krut who is on a mission to rescue his fellow alien who have crashed on earth. There are two modes: Story Mode and Free Mode. Free Mode lets you test your skill and try to rack up as many points as possible. Story mode is the campaign for Krut to save his friends.
The game play is very fluid and nice running at a constant 60 frames per second. You control your ship by either tapping a spot on your screen for him to move to or pressing and dragging your finger around for him to follow. It works well and does not cause any frustration. The ship auto fires your standard bullets until you pick up better ammunition. Along the way you pick up your alien friends by using your tractor beam to pull them to your ship. You can also pull in crates that have will have special items in them. Also cows (yes, cows) to shoot at your enemies.
The music in the game is a little southern melody that fits the atmosphere of the game pretty well. The sound effects aren’t the greatest but they get the job done. Here and there you’ll hear an excited “Wooooooooooo-eeee!”. You’ll hear the moos from the cows and so forth.
The graphics are smooth and the animation is good at best. The movements of the enemies are extremely linear and slow. Its very easy to get out of the way and dodge them. Still I must praise the silky smooth 60 frames per second. That really brings the games experience up.
Each level has 3 difficulties but I couldn’t tell the difference between either of them. I didn’t get too far but I was hoping for some challenge after the first 5 missions but I didn’t run into it.
All in all this is a fun game to pass the time. While not a mega produced game, it still has its value on the mobile market. It works well and will keep you occupied for a couple of hours.
