It’s the time of the week when we do our weekly reviews, and that means we’ll cover the most important news that happened the past week.

LG debuted the world’s first smarphone with a display of 1080p resolution. Here are some of our first impressions:

LG Display announces the world’s first 5-inch Full HD LCD smartphone panel capable of 1920 x 1080p resolution at 440 ppi. It was expected that eventually somebody would start manufacturing such displays for mobile handsets and here it is, providing for the first time Full HDTV quality on a smartphone. With 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, the panel is also 0.5 inches larger, 2.2 times denser in pixels, and 1.3 times more advanced in ppi than the preceding 4.5″ panel at 329ppi and 1280×720. Samsung Galaxy S3 was released in 28 countries. Here’s the story:

Samsung have just completed the biggest smartphone launch for a single product with the release of the Galaxy SIII in 28 countries. Samsung will release it to even bigger market with a release to 145 countries on 296 carriers by the end of July.

The phone is very much in demand (stating the obvious, sorry!) with the Galaxy SIII being the most pre-ordered phone in UK and crossing over a total of 9 million world-wide, Samsung has already released a bunch of Samsung PIN mobile stores placed at popular destinations around the world. The company will also be going on a World Tour shortly in Australia, India, China, US, Japan, Korea and nine other countries.Source  GSMArena

Sony began rolling out ICS updates for the Xperia arc, mini, mini pro, ray, neo, active and live with walkman. Here’s a paragraph from the article:

Sony Mobile has started the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich roll out in mid-April delivering the new software update first to Xperia 2011 smartphone series – Xperia ray, neo V and Xperia arc S with promise that within 4 to 6 weeks to make it available for the rest of the series.

Sony announced two new waterproof smarphones – Xperia acro S and Xperia go. Here’s a cut from the story:

Sony Mobile announces two new high-end stylish looking, durable and waterproof Androidsmartphones – Xperia go (photo left) and Xperia acro S (photo right). Both phones have scratch resistant mineral glass displays and meet industry standard IP (International Protection) ratings for protection against dust and water immersion. Samsung released Samsung Galaxy R Style in Korea. Here’s more info on the story:

Samsung Electronics launches a new LTE smartphone the GALAXY R (SHV-E170S/K/L) in Korea available on all three major carriers. The phone was announced earlier this month on May 11th alongside with Vega Racer 2 and  LG Optimus LTE2. This is the first Samsung smartphone to sport Qualcomm’s 1.5GHz dual-core MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 chip solution. See more
