Motorola: Some devices just not worth updating to ICS

Wondering why Motorola hasn’t updated devices to ICS yet ? Well, they think some devices just aren’t worth updating to the Ice Cream Sandwich OS. A few days back Motorola released the devices that will be updated to ICS and also some that wont be because those devices cant handle the OS and also due to the minimal improvement potential. Motorola will now be following a policy which states that if the device has a very small number of improvements then it wont be updated to the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. Not updating a device that has a 512 MB RAM is still understandable although Google did update one such device to ICS but ignoring the Droid 3 is a big disappointment.

Here’s exactly what Motorola said:

You may be wondering why all devices aren’t being upgraded to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Here’s the deal. We work very closely with Google and cell phone carriers for every software update. And, obviously we want the new release to improve our devices. If we determine that can’t be done—well then, we’re not able to upgrade that particular device.
