A while ago Samsung made a promise to the customers that were not eligible for an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich like the GALAXY Tab 7 (original), GALAXY S, GALAXY M and others that they will receive a “Value Pack” upgrade, meaning they will get Gingerbread OS with features imported from the ICS OS such as “Face unlock.”

Today the promised value pack for the GALAXY Tab is starting to push out slowly in South Korea via Kies software and it includes the Face recognition feature, the ability to take snapshots while recording videos (like HTC One X feature) and more.

For the moment the new firmware upgrade it is available only for South Korean clients on SKT, KT, LGU+ and the WiFi version. Hopefully it will spread world-wide soon enough. You can always try to manually check for the new value pack via Kies wherever you are (note that you need the latest version 2.0 of Kies software).

New Feature Updates

  •  Face Recognition (Face Unlock): Low levels of security
  •  Add a snapshot of the video recording feature
  •  Adding photo editor
