Week in Review @PocketDroid (26.03 – 01.04)


The time of the week when we do our weekly review has come! And we’re about to bring you the most exciting news of the past week!

The Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket got a fully-functional ICS ROM. Here’s what we said about that:

Despite that Samsung started rolling out the Ice Cream Sandwich firmware upgrade for over a week now in select countries in Europe and in South Korea in Asia, many GALAXY S II owners world-wide still can’t enjoy it because it’s not available yet due to local carriers approval.

However owners of a Samsung GALAXY S II Skyrocket (AT&T bound) are in for a treat as a fully functional Android 4.0.3 ROM has been leaked out. The new build IML74K is reportedly having NFC and Google Wallet working.  Flash recovery and superuser zip to get root as well. Download links included 

The Asus Transformer Prime received a new update. Here’s a cut from the article:

Asus UK says that all Transformer TF201 Prime owners in the UK should be receiving a new OTA (over the air) firmware update starting today.

The new build version brings several enhancements and bug fixes like the Vibe has been upgraded improving its functionality throughout. Google logos and app interfaces have been updated. The USB to LAN cable for UX series is now supported as is Ad Hoc mode and more. Full article 

T-Mobile announced ICS software updates for the HTC Amaze 4G and HTC Sensation 4G. Here’s the article:

T-Mobile in close collaboration with HTC has updated support forum posts for HTC Amaze 4G, respectively HTC Sensation 4G informing customers about an upcoming Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) firmware upgrade.

This is nothing new to us or you but at least now we have a certainty that the Ice Cream Sandwich software update is closing in really fast. Likely that early next month (4-5 days) T-Mobile will start pushing it out to both devices.

HTC One series will be available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland as soon as next week! In other words:

HTC’s One series takes another step towards official release in Europe as O2 Germanyconfirmed a couple of days ago via Twitter that they are expecting to stock both quad-core One X and dual-core micro-arc oxidized One S for €599 respectively €499 sometime next week. According to the Unwired customers in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, basically the whole Central Europe will be able to purchase one of the new HTC One devices starting next Monday. Meizu released public beta versions of the upcoming ICS updates for the Meizu MX and M9. Here’s a small part from the article:

Yesterday Chinese manufacturer Meizu announced the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich over the weekend for both Meizu MX and M9.

As promised Meizu has just released the first beta version of Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich minutes ago, surprisingly for both MX and M9.  Surprisingly because the company previously said that the software update to ICS OS for M9 will follow up shortly after MX. Fortunately they decided to include support for both devices in the same build V1037. Full article with download links
