Back in July 201 there were a little over 500,000 Android devices activated each day, some even rushed to speculate that by the end of October 2011, it could reach the impressive figure of 1 million activations.
That was not the case but still the amount of Android devices activated each day right now is really incredible. Andy Rubin announced on Google’s social networking site Google+ that more than 700,000 android devices are activated DAILY. This comes down to 29,166 devices (more or less) activated every hour. Or 486 devices every minute, or by the time you finish reading this post.
Andy also explained what “activation” actually means, we quote:
“We count each device only once (ie, we don’t count re-sold devices), and “activations” means you go into a store, buy a device, put it on the network by subscribing to a wireless service.”
With the development of Quad-core devices already increasing and the need of more power the number of activated devices on a daily basis might hit the 1 million barrier somewhere in the first quarter of 2012, maybe at the end of February, if not in March.
