Week in Review @PocketDroid (10 – 16 October 2011)


Another week passed, and it’s time for this week’s weekly review. The first news of the week is that the most popular custom ROM – CyanogenMod got updated to 7.1. In other words:

Announced to launch on October 2nd CyanogenMod got delayed for this week due to some technical problem, but who’s complaining now that CM7.1 is here and stable (better later than never).

CyanogenMod stable version 7.1 (based on Android 2.3.7) is now available for download (68 Android devices supported among them the whole Xperia line-up). HP TouchPad, LG Optimus 3D, Pyramid, Doubleshot and Shooter soon to be added to the list of supported devices as they are still in beta testing. Full story 

Next, we saw some leaked specs for the next generation of the Samsung Galaxy S, the Samsung Galaxy S3. Here’s what the story was all about:

An anonymous tipster took a screenshot to what he said its a slide supposedly shown to carrier and retail representatives as part of an internal presentation of GALAXY S line evolution culminating with Samsung Galaxy S III thumbnail and some key features of what might be the next flagship device from Korean handset maker for 2012. We saw the Motorola Droid RAZR HD and the XOOM 2 in the wild. Here’s a part from the article:

We already know how these devices look like from previous leaks, Motorola Droid RAZR HD (also known as Spyder to some of us) and XOOM2 Media Edition 8.2-inch.

Today a new set of photos surfaced starring both (XOOM2 and Spyder) devices and with the invites rolling out to press from Verizon and Motorola Mobility to a mystery event which will take place on October 18th and with the launch of a teaser for the very same event we can only take a wild guess what these two are cooking. Then we wrote a review for the HTC Explorer. Here’s a small cut from the review:

Now here is a device HTC doesn’t really need to succeed with, because  its like a phone toreplace the ages old Tattoo just to offer a legible choice for the buyer in the lower segment. Lets see what HTC have given it to make it a HTC smartphone. Full review

We found out that the Nexus Prime will be finally unleashed on 19th October in Hong Kong! Here’s what we said about that:

As we all know Samsung Electronics has made its name as one of the best brand in mobile technology. In the past year or two , Samsung has been constantly regarded as the next big thing and why not, Samsung always innovates. Click for full article 

Then, we heard that the Ice-Cream Sandwich statue arrived at Google Headquarters! In other words:

Quite a crowed today at the official unveiling of the Ice Cream Sandwich statue in front of Google Headquarters (Building 44).

And the last news of the week: the CyanogenMod 7 port for the HP Touchpad got  entered the alpha stage! Here’s a small cut from the article:
