Android grows, RIM falls

The Android platform continued its rise in the smartphone market at the cost of RIM which saw a decrease from 24.7% smartphone market share to 19.7%.

comScore reports suggest that only Android and Apple have seen a rise in the smartphone market share with 43,7% and 27.3% respective market shares.

Android saw a considerable growth in the market due to a  number of Smartphone makers such as Samsung, LG, HTC and Motorola all running the Android operating system.

comScore surveyed about 30,000 smartphone users over a period of 3 months from May 2011 to Aug 2011. Android sales grew 5.6% over the three months up from 38.1% (more than 20% over 3 months).

Android, much like last year, is the leading smartphone OS eclipsing the iOS and BB 7.0 operating systems.
