A few weeks ago a video and some leaked images were showing-off a new multimedia device from Panasonic, which was rumored to launch in August or September.
Panasonic wants a piece of this new pizza called “tablet/ereader market” as its Asian competitors, Sharp, Toshiba which are already “tasting” a slice, or are getting ready as Sony is with S1 and S2. We now have a name, a launch date and some key specifications for Panasonic’s e-book.
Panasonic Raboo is set to hit Japan shelves on August 12th for an estimated price of $450. The Raboo device will support the Rakuten book store, well known in Japan with about 10,000 eBook titles available for purchase, but it wont come with Android market support.
Raboo is equipped with a 7-inch screen, 1024×600 pixel display, will run Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, 8Gb of internal storage, a microSDHC card slot (probably with support up to 32Gb), 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.1. It has a 6 hour autonomy for the battery and weighs about 450 grams. The Panasonic tablet supports 1080pHD video playback, but it doesn’t have an HD display nor it will feature HDMI output, the only real advantage is that you can watch Hgih-Definition videos on the device.
