Wolfson Releases WM5100 Audio Chip For High-End Devices

Looks like handset makers do care about audio quality, chip designer Wolfson announced the release of  WM5100 audio chip for high-end devices like they did for the Samsung Galaxy S. They claim its the first audio system-on-chip (SoC), of this industry.

The WM5100 represents a cluster of several discrete chips into one package. The SoC incorporates the multi-channel audio hub, two way noise cancellation and a multi-core programmable digital signal processor all into one single package.

CCO of Wolfson, Andy Brannan in an interview for theInquirer said: “The WM5100 is an amalgamation of two years of work to bring standalone parts into a single chip”.
